County Senior League Div One - Game 6
23/10/21 - New Bohemians vs Wombwell Town
In blustery conditions and playing on an unfavoured 3G pitch Wombwell Town picked up another three points as they continue the hunt for promotion. Luke Norbury was named captain for the game with club skipper Luke Exley resting on the bench for the big game next Saturday against South Kirkby. It was Norbury who had the first opportunity of the game as he collected the ball from an Eddie Agnew throw in down the left, swivelled on the ball and shot wide. A minute later though and it was 1-0 as some quick passing in the middle of the New Bohemians half saw Gareth McDermott slide a ball to Will Harling whose scooped shot from 25 yards dipped over the head of former Weller trialist Jensen Beevor into the far corner. It was almost two on the half hour as McDermott tried his luck from long range and Beevor had to scramble for the ball against Brad Kerr after failing to catch the shot at the first attempt. The final fifteen of the half belonged to New Bohemians as they put pressure on the Wellers' back line, which resulted in two balls flying out of the ground before they finally got a final touch to equalise. A loose ball following a long throw on 39 minutes wasn't dealt with and eventually the effort was put in past Jonathan Davis on the line by Harrison Lee. It took a while for the second half to get going, but eventually Norbury got the shots started as he forced Beevor to make a save on 64 minutes and the Wellers' couldn't take advantage of three successive corners. Beevor was forced into action again with a tipped save on 69 minutes when a long punt up field by Davis found Kerr who shot on the volley. The lead was restored on 71 minutes when McDermott supplied the ball across the box from the right wing for Agnew to put home unmarked at the far post. Shoutts of offside from the New Bohemians' players were ignored by referee Tyler Machin. Kerr made it 3-1 with seven minutes to go after he found himself free on the left wing and placed his shot from the edge of the area across the diving Beevor and into the far corner of the goal. It was an emotional celebration as he remembered the first birthday since his father died. It was almost four late on as sub Connor Housley's shot was diverted wide for a corner as Beevor laid strewn on the ground.
