Pre-season Friendly Number 5
24/08/21 - Wombwell Town vs Dodworth MW
It was a poor start from the Wellers side who hadn't played for nearly three weeks and against one of the top teams in the CSL Premier Division they were quickly punished.
In just the third minute a push in the back by George Hodgkiss on his man gave Dodworth a penalty, and despite fellow U21 keeper Tom Cooper's best effort the visitors took the lead.
On a quarter of an hour the lead was doubled with a long range effort from the left wing which was virtually unstoppable.
It was a quick-fire double as Dodworth made it three two minutes later when the run forward broke past Hodgkiss and the forward slotted the ball under the body of the advancing Cooper from 13 yards.
With fears of an even tougher defeat manager Karl Rose decided to take the pressure off Hodgkiss and replace him with the experienced Pete Bartleson, who was returning from nearly a year on the side-lines.
Chances for the Wellers came few and far between with Kieran Price having the best chance of the half, which was comfortably saved.
In the second half Dodworth were able to sit back and clear virtually every loose and long ball while under very little pressure in the penalty area.
A small spell of attacking play on around the hour saw Wombwell's Price come close to scoring at the far post but for the pace on the whipped in free-kick from the left.
Captain Luke Exley then shot across goal following the side's best move a minute later with Lee Bennett and Price again involved in the attack.
Wombwell will be looking for a much better performance on Friday when they play their final friendly before the start of the season on the 4th September.
