Worksop Van Hire North Midlands Development League - North Division - Game 12
10/02/22 - Wombwell Town U21 vs Dronfield Town U21
Our U21 side came back from behind twice to salvage a point against Dronfield Town as they continued to show their fighting spirit. The game was even until the 14th minutes when Dronfield Town were awarded a penalty, and scored, after contact was made when the striker turn inside Josh Redmond. Five minutes before the break The Wellers were awarded their own penalty as Jay Hall was bundled over from behind right in front of the keeper. Lewis Easterbrook stepped up to take the penalty and power beat the keeper who dived the right way. Dronfield retook the lead on 62 minutes after a mazy run past three players saw the striker fire low across goal, beating Simpson. The Wellers changed formation to push more players forward and after hitting the woodwork three times it looked as though their luck was on empty. With ten minutes remaining their task was made all the harder as Simpson was shown a straight red for handling the ball outside the area. The breakaway saw the keeper rush out from goal and his momentum in making the save took him out of the area, which the assistant referee flagged for and after a brief discussion gave the referee little choice. It didn't stop the home side from being the better team in the final stages of the game and they got what they deserved two minutes into added time when the ball of the night by Jay Hall on the right wing found substitute Lewis Hope in the box and in the perfect position to slot the ball under the keeper to equalise at the death.
