  WOMBWELL TOWN F.C.
Worksop Van Hire North Midlands Development League - North Division - Game 10
19/01/22 - Wombwell Town U21 vs Handsworth U21

Despite the result, the performance given by the Wellers U21 side was encouraging. Looking at starting 2022 with fresh aspirations the team, which including three debutants in the starting XI and another on the bench, battled hard against the impressive title chasing visitors.

The game itself saw very chances at goal for either side, but it was Handsworth who made two efforts count to take the points.

The opening goal came on 40 minutes when the Handsworth striker took the ball past debutante Josh Redmond who didn't want make contact with a tackle and struck low into the bottom corner past Matty Simpson.

A booking did come on the hour for the defender and his night was ended slightly early in added time when Redmond was shown a second yellow.

A wayward back pass into the area on 73 minutes saw the Wellers' keeper chase and dive down to smother the ball. The referee awarded an indirect free-kick and booked the keeper. To add to Simpson's woes the free-kick was hit low from close range, under the wall, and bounced in off of him into the net.

The Wellers' didn't give up on trying to find a way back into the game and had a huge shout for a penalty waved away after Lewis Hope went down under the defenders tackle, but the decision to play on just about sums up their luck this season.
