Worksop Van Hire North Midlands Development League - Mini-Shield - Game 4
07/04/22 - Dronfield Town U21 vs Wombwell Town U21
The final game of the season for the U21s ended in a familiar fashion as they fell to a fourth defeat from four in the Mini-Shield Group Stage. Jack Butterley's plans were disrupted by the non-arrival of two attacking players before kick-off and his changed starting XI fell behind after ten minutes, but went into the break level following Tom Smith solo effort on 38 minutes which saw the defensive midfielder travel 30 yards with the ball into the opposition half an unleash a shot low across goal, finding the far corner of the net. Wombwell Town saw the better of the player at the start of the second half, but substitutions disrupted the rhythm and the hosts re-took the lead on 67 minutes. Three minutes later they extended their lead with a counter attack following a strong tackle in their own half and with the referee waving play-on Dronfield capitalised to lower the morale of their visitors. On 86 minutes Wellers' substitute Tyler Pacey took the ball inside from the right and unleashed a 22 yard shot past the keeper to make it 3-2, but sadly, there was no late equaliser to finish their season with a positive result.
