U21 Pre-season Friendly Number 2
09/08/21 - Hemsworth MW U23 vs Wombwell Town U21
Hemsworth MW proved to be a step too far for Jack Butterley's young side as the oppositions Under 23 side eventually came out on top.
Similarly to their first outing it took the young Wellers some time to find their rhythm and get into the game and some brilliant individual skill by Joey Kankam on ten minutes saw the forward get past his defender and beat Matty Simpson inside the area.
Three minutes later and the home side doubled their lead as Jake Gooding found the back of the net from the right hand side of the penalty area.
This Wellers U21 side though never know when to give up and on 28 minutes Calum Smith continued to impress as he eventually chipped the ball over the stranded keeper into the net from just outside the area after seeing his initial shot blocked.
Keegan Hepplestone equalised two minutes before the break after the striker was able to turn away from former Weller Callum Beaumont in the box and strike past the keeper.
Shaken up by the two goals they had conceded Hemsworth came out in the second half and immediately went on the attack to retake the lead.
Three minutes into the second half Mason Kilmartin capitalised after Simpson parried away a shot from his right into the centre of the penalty area to the striker who struck the ball in off the crossbar.
Simpson was forced into making a number of saves during the second half, but was eventually again by Kilmartin who rose the highest at a corner on 72 minutes to make it 4-2.
