Pre-Season Friendly
14/07/22 - Wombwell Town vs Belper Town
Wombwell Town's first pre-season friendly of the 2022/23 season saw them face tough opposition with a strong squad arriving from NPL side Belper Town who play at step 3 of the non-league pyramid. It looked as though the game was going to be all one-way traffic when the visitors took the lead after just four minutes when a shot from outside the area was hit with venom across goal giving Jono Davis no chance. Two minutes later Davis was called into action once more and expertly tipped the ball over the crossbar from another piledriver. The Wellers slowly grew into the game, but it was Davis' good goal keeping and some solid defensive work by the back four that kept the score to 1-0 at the break. Half Time: WTFC 0, BTFC 1. The second half was a much more even affair with plenty of changes for the visiting team, and for the home team a second trialist played 45 replacing Eddie Agnew who picked up a slight hamstring injury. On 58 minutes a front line attack by Brad Kerr and new signing Chay Searston proved chaotic for the Belper defence and a failed clearance allowed Brad Cresswell to pounce on the loose ball and strike home from just inside the penalty area. It could have been more just two minutes later when Kerr struck the upright after a shot across goal from the left. Full Time: Wombwell Town 1 (B. Cresswell, 58) Belper Town 1 Wombwell Town:
