Worksop Van Hire North Midlands Development Football League - Game 2
15/09/22 - Wombwell Town U21 vs Club Thorne U21
Following on from an opening game victory, the Wellers U21 side were hoping to get back-to-back wins only for a disastrous opening minute making it an uphill struggle.
A backpass to Ben Eades by Kian Hall in the opening 30 seconds fell short and Curtis Mann was on able to chase the ball and slot it past the keeper for the early lead.
Still stunned from the early goal Mann doubled the lead on 16 minutes when once again he pounced, this time from a long ball, beat the onrushing Eades and curl it past the keeper.
An individual effort three minutes later saw Lewis Easterbrook score his first of the season. A mazy run into the area saw the Club Thorne defenders back off the midfielder allowing him to score into the bottom right hand post.
On 37 minutes Mann completed his hat-trick. This time from the penalty spot after Bailey Wilson made a rash challenge in the area.
To compound the problems Mann scored his and Club Thorne's fourth goal of the evening on the stroke of half time. An initial free-kick was blocked by Josh Deakin, but fell to Mann whose first time hit flew over everyone and into the back of the net.
Half Time: WTFC 1, CT 4.
It was a case of reset and salvage in the second half for the Wellers and they gave themselves a glimmer of hope when two minutes in a ball by Shay Bould found Jacob Galloway-Moreton on the left and the winger used his pace to get into the penalty area to make it 2-4 with a low driven shot.
On 74 minutes the four-goal Mann had spoken his way into the sin bin, however his constant abuse of the referee gave Jamie Farnsworth no choice but to show a straight red card instead.
With the visitors now down to ten men the Wellers started to press forward more, however it back-fired on 77 minutes. A foul by Harry Clague in front of the visitors dugout saw the free-kick delivered into the box for Oliver Beaglehole to touch in at the near post.
Getting a point was now out of reach, but it didn't stop the Wellers from grabbing a third goal on 88 minutes. A corner was floated towards the penalty spot and substitute Niall Khamis-Burtoft was there to hit the ball across the ground and in to finish off the scoring.
