NCEL- Game 19
30/11/24 - Wombwell Town vs Brigg Town
The Wellers form has been taking hit after hit recently and despite taking the lead against visitors Brigg Town, they fell to their third home defeat in a row - the first time it has happened in our history. Opening stages of the game saw Brigg Town's top scorer, Josh Batty, head wide after three minutes, before Wellers own Gav Allott struck wide across goal just two minutes later. A Jordan Kershaw header from Josh Nodder's free-kick as the clock went into double digits was agonisingly wide with Allott getting a shot on target moments later. A lull in the game was only disrupted on 36 minutes as Owen Fieldsend's cross from the left was knocked down by the chest of Eddie Agnew to Allott who once against saw his shot goal across goal and wide of the right hand post. The opening goal came with six minutes remaining of the first 45 as Agnew became supplier from the right wing. There was Allott at the far post to head over the keeper and watch the ball find the left post netting. Allott's first goal in eight appearances. Brigg were almost on level terms just a minute later, but were denied by the strong hand of Charlie Preston to palmed the ball over the crossbar with his quick reactions. WTFC 1, BTFC 0. Whatever was said by Brigg manager Brett Agnew at half time worked. It took just four minutes for his side to equalise in the second half. Owen Davey and Josh Batty worked together down the left before the latter supllied the ball across the box to the unmarked Daniel North to fire into the roof of the net. The Wellers had a couple of chances to retake the lead with substitute Nick Guest heading over on the hour, followed by Nodder forcing the keeper to punch the ball over the crossbar three minutes later. Brigg took the lead for the first time with twenty minutes remaining as they hit the Wellers on the counter attack. North changed from scorer to provider to supply substitute Dayle Hutson in the middle of the box and it was a shot in off the crossbar that did the trick. With the Wombwell chasing the game a free kick with four minutes remaining was cleared to the centre circle, but a slip by Danny Youel saw a 3-on-1 attack for the Zebras. The initial shot was saved by Preston onto the crossbar, but the ball fell nicely to sub Ashton Coley who couldn't miss. Eight minutes into added time saw another mistake giving the ball to Martin Pembleton who supplied Coley for his second of the afternoon. Wombwell Town - 1 Gavin Allott - 39 Brigg Town - 4 Daniel North - 49 Dayle Hutson - 70 Ashton Coley - 86, 90+8 Attendance: 111
