NCEL- Game 25
25/01/25 - Wombwell Town vs Louth Town
After a crazy opening eight minutes of the game where the Wellers were reduced to ten men, no one thought the score would end up looking so one sided. Captain Jack Dando received a yellow card after just 90 seconds as the referee looked to stamp his authority on the game early. The foul on Bailey Wright deemed strong enough to warrant an early card. In the 8th minutes Louth's new signing, Brody Robertson, latched onto a loose ball that saw Dando chase down the striker as the player slowed down a clumsy collision from behind saw the captain sent off. The resulting free kick ended up in the Wellers net, however Ethan Fretwell was offside as Wright delivered the dead-ball into the area towards the far, left hand post. A resilient defence, now with Jack Wilson filling in at centre back, was rarely tested as the game became an even affair for next twenty minutes - until Louth went on the attack again through Fretwell. After beating his man a ball played across the box found Robertson whose effort was saved by debut keeper (and Jack's cousin), Charlie Dando. Eventually the breakthrough came, but at the other end of the pitch. On 35 minutes a ball from the right found Josh Nodder whose technique stunned everyone and the volley connection zipped through the defence and left Louth keeper Alex Lait scratching his head at the marvelous execution. Three minutes before the break the Wellers doubled their lead after Liam Owen raced towards the edge of the penalty before going 1-on-1 with the keeper. A low shot across the keeper found the far right corner of the net. HT: WTFC 2, LTFC 0. The second half was a case of keeping what they had for the home side as impressive performances by Jason Paling, Niall Smith, Wilson and midfielder Danny Youel made it difficult to select a player of the match. A ball from Liam Owen clinched that award on 77 minutes as he set up Jordan Kershaw for a third goal after Paling started the move from deep on the right hand side before paying in Owen on the edge of the penalty area. Substitute Kane Reece was denied as the game headed towards the 90th minute as Lait's outstretched leg deflected the ball wide, but fellow sub Nick Guest did grab a fourth three minutes into added time as he latched onto Smith's left hand cross. Wombwell Town - 4 Josh Nodder 35 Liam Owen 43 Jordan Kershaw 77 Nick Guest 90+3 Louth Town - 0 Attendance: 137
