NCEL- Game 28
07/02/25 - Wombwell Town vs Nostell MW
Having faced and lost to the Wellers twice already this season, visitors Nostell were determined not to lose a third game - and especially not by another 4-0 scoreline. It lead to a quiet opening half hour to the game with both teams struggling to create too much in front of goal with the best effort falling to Eddie Agnew on 27 minutes that failed to trouble Aidan Tyas in the Nostell net. A strong challenge from behind on Agnew six minutes later though saw the first yellow card of the game (to Jack Maeer) and a free kick sailed in to Jordan Kershaw whose shot was cleared before reaching the goal line. A flurry of chances in the final five minutes saw Owen Sykes put a free kick wide on 41 minutes moments before Agnew and Kershaw combined and forced Tyas to save down to his right hand side. The game could have changed two minutes before the break as Nostell's ball through the middle saw Wellers keeper Charlie Dando go for a clearance, but narrowly beaten to the ball by Cyrus Rowe which then saw the two boots collide and both players go down. After good thinking time by the referee a yellow was handed to Dando, with cousin Jack Dando proving he was there to cover to prevent Charlie from being last man. Half Time: 0-0 The half time team talk worked its magic and it took just four minutes before the Wellers took the lead in the second half. A familiar sight of Sykes' long throw came in from the left and through the crowd Agnew was there to powerfully head into the net. It was almost two after 55 minutes as a free kick found Captain Jack Dando's head which saw the ball directed towards Liam Owen who volleyed towards goal. Tyas pushed the ball away to the feet of Kershaw, but from the acute angle his rebound effort only found the wrong side of the side netting. The 63rd minute saw another Sykes throw, this time from the right hand side, cause chaos and as Kershaw and Owen found themselves flat on their backs it was the latter who was able to overhead kick the ball into the roof of the net. Nostell failed to register any shots on goal in the second half and the scoreline proved to be a comfortable one for Wombwell Town who claimed second place in the table and a 10-0 aggregate score over Nostell for the season.
