NCEL- Game 36
15/03/25 - Yorkshire Amateur vs Wombwell Town
Following the 1-0 win at Club Thorne the previous Tuesday where a single goal by Ollie Fearon was enough to clinch the points another win at Yorkshire Amateur virtually guarantees the Wellers a place in the play-offs. Against a side all but doomed (and officially relegated come the final whistle) a depleted Wellers squad missing no fewer than 12 players, took their time to confirmed the points. A lack of first half goals have kept games tight and despite the best efforts it wasn't until five minutes into first half added time when the Wellers scored. Before the goal, on 16 minutes, Cian Guest's ball from the goal line back to Eddie Agnew was denied by Fabio Intumbo from ten yards. Intumbo saved once more with his legs nine minutes later to deny Sam Finlaw his first goal for the club and Agnew came close once more on 38 minutes when he fired over the crossbar. On loan keeper Sebastian Malkowski, who made his return to the club on Tuesday after signing from Worksop Town, denied the hosts from taking the lead as a drive from distance was destined for the bottom corner until the strong hand of the once-capped Polish international turned the ball behind. With the game likely to go into the break without any goals one finally came deep into added time. Ethan Fox carried the ball into the box on the right and his shot towards goal was redirected past the keeper from close range. Half Time: 0-1 A flurry of half chances fell to Agnew, Jack Wilson and Fearon in the second half as the Wellers looked to double their lead, but it took until the 78th minute before it finally happened. Debutante Lorenzo Tejeda, signed with centre back Finlay Gledhill on the Friday, came on off the bench and made an impact on the left wing with a ball into the box that found Guest free by the penalty spot to beat Intumbo on 78 minutes. Just four minutes later any fear of a potential comeback was ended as Fearon grabbed his second goal of the game. A Jason Paling run down the right hand side was played to the striker whose effort across goal looked likely to nestle into the left side netting before Ali Kamara Tunkara's miss-clearance powered the ball into his own net. Fearon will take credit for the goal. The Wellers rolled back the years in the later stages as Luke Norbury (a member of the squad from the club's first in 2018) came on for only his second appearance of the season, with Gareth McDermott making his 149th in a Wellers shirt.
