WOMBWELL TOWN F.C.
Macron NCEL Premier Division - Game 11
27/09/25 - Eccleshill United vs Wombwell Town

Wombwell Town secured their first point of the season away from home after a blistering start saw two goals in the opening 12 minutes.

There was a gritty determination amongst the Wellers camp as the game got underway and early pressure yielded two goals from different set pieces.

The opening goal came after just six minutes as Ollie Fearon headed home from a trademark Owen Sykes throw in from the left into the penalty area.

Fearon then doubled the lead on 12 minutes from a Sykes corner. The floated ball towards the far post was headed back across goal by captain Jack Dando and there was Fearon to strike once again.

The home side quickly realised they had to up their game and just a minute later forced Sebba Malkowski into action, but Eccleshill United's first shot on target was collected comfortably.

Dando found himself in the unfamiliar position of left wing following another set piece on 20 minutes and the centre back was able to volley an effort at the Eccleshill keeper.

It was a set piece of their own that brought Eccleshill back into the game a long throw on their left found Hamza Diallo at the far post where he found the time to strike after a slip in the back line.

Half Time: 2-1

The Wellers tried to extend their lead in the second half as Sykes put a free kick low past the left hand post and Jordan Kershaw fired over the crossbar within the first five minutes.

Both teams seemed to cancel each other out as the half progressed, but another set piece on 72 minutes drew the game level as the home side added more pressure on the defence.

A foul by sub Oli Robinson gave Eccleshill a free kick in a good position and the ball into the box was put past Malkowski in the scramble by Zackary Sangster at the left hand post.

The final 15 minutes saw Wombwell desperately trying to find a third goal with Dando heading just wide and Fearon, searching for his hat-trick shooting just wide following a corner.
