Macron NCEL Premier Division - Game 12
|
04/10/25 - Wombwell Town vs Rossington Main
They say scored balance out over the season and within seven days of each other two games have done just that. Two goals up at Eccleshill last weekend the Wellers could only draw. Two goals down this week against Rossington and the Wellers come back to take a point. The first half saw only a smattering of chances, but virtually the first saw the visitors take the lead on 16 minutes. A corner by Cody Prior floated over everyone to find Cameron Hough at the far post unmarked. Hough picked his spot and powered the ball into the roof of the net. As a heavy downpour greeted the players the Wellers almost found an equaliser before the halfway mark, forcing Jordan Greaves to save with a shot from the penalty area before the rebound from Nick Guest went just wide of the post. Rossington came close twice to double their lead in the space of a minute, but were denied by two fingertip saves by Sebba Malkowski. The first came after a shot by player/manager Greg Young, while the second came from the resulting corner to deny them once more. Half Time: 0-1 It was much better start from the Wellers in the second half and they thought they had equalised just seven minutes in as a corner by Mason Barlow found its way into the net via Jack Dando's shoulder, however the ref disallowed the goal and booked the captain for handball, much to his and everyone else's confusion. Silas Valladolid-Collins netted his first goal for Rossington on 71 minutes as the winger latched onto the loose ball at his left hand post following an initial save by Malkowski. All was not lost though as the Wellers battle back into the game with a goal just eight minutes later. Debutante Zak Cottle crossed in from the right and found substitute Eddie Agnew who headed in past the defence for his 70th goal for the club. Just three minutes later the home side were level as another debutant, Ebenezer Ansah, was fouled 25 yards from goal. Sam Finlaw's free-kick looked to be on target, but a redirect by the foot of Ollie Fearon made sure Greaves had no chance of saving the effort. The Wellers kept on pressing and a foul on Agnew two minutes later left the striker with a torn shirt and somehow the free-kick against him and a yellow card shown. Another two minutes passed and two more decisions went against the home side as Fearon went down after a trip in the box followed by Guest pushed down from behind, but both penalty appeals were waved away. With two minutes remaining a ball into the box by Fearon just needed a touch to be redirected into the goal, but Agnew's desperate slide couldn't make contact. The game ended with more controversy as another debutante in Tommy Needham slid in for the ball at the same time with Rossington substitute Khalid Suleiman in a 50/50 challenge, but it was Wombwell who suffered again as Needham was shown a second yellow card leaving fans bemused once more. Wombwell Town - 2 Eddie Agnew 79 Ollie Fearon 82 Rossington Main - 2 Cameron Hough 16 Silas Valladolid-Collins 71 Attendance: 142
