WOMBWELL TOWN F.C.
Macron NCEL Premier Division - Game 18
11/11/25 - Horbury Town vs Wombwell Town

A bottom of the table clash saw both teams desperately needing the points and it was Horbury who secured them to make it seven points from a possible nine.

The hosts were much the better side throughout the game and forced Lloyd Allinson into his first save after just three minutes. Former Weller loanee Joe Jagger's free-kick was aimed towards the bottom left corner, but the keeper was able to deny the striker.

Allinson was in action again on 19 minutes as he denied Horbury's new signing Emmaisa Nzondo down at the right hand post. Ten minutes later though and Allinson was beaten. A switch to the left finding the dangerous Gibril Bojang saw the winger reach the 18 yard box and play in George Whittaker who was allowed to take a touch and curl the shot to Allinson's left into the goal.

Wombwell only really had two chances in the game with the ball going over the bar via Jack Dando's shoulder from a Sam Finlaw corner on 12 minutes and their equaliser on 37.

When the ball was played through the middle for debutant Guillem Colom it looked certain the striker would shoot, but he played the ball to his left to find Jack Wilson. The low, driven shot got past Paul Day at his right hand post to give Wilson his second goal of the season and his third in 59 appearances.

The heavy rain of the second half coincided with Horbury upping the tempo and before regaining the lead they had two goals chalked off for offside. The first came on 66 minutes and saw Horbury celebrating before a chat between the referee and assistant kept the score level.

A quicker decision came with a quarter of an hour left after Jagger had done the hard work cutting inside from the right and seeing his shot blocked only to be put in by the man offside.

Just four minutes later there could be no complaints as Horbury were awarded a penalty for a foul on G. Bojang. The winger stepped up and placed the ball right in the corner to beat Allinson who dived in the right direction.

The second goal seemed to knock all hope out of the Wellers who failed to create anything meaningful going forward and the lead could have been extended with another effort that struck post and wide six minutes before full time.
