Macron NCEL Premier Division - Game 19

22/11/25 - Bottesford Town vs Wombwell Town
The midway point of the league campaign saw another frustrating trip on the road as the Wellers failed to take their chances against another struggling side. Wombwell Town's last win in the league came in the reverse fixture in September, and while results have been tough performances have deserved better results. This game was no exception with early pressure coming from a Sam Finlaw corner after just two minutes. The ball into the box was headed towards goal by captain Jack Dando and deflected up onto the crossbar and back out to Kenneth Effah, who found space but fired over the still rattling target. Efforts from Jordan Kershaw and Liam Owen were denied by the home keeper before a free kick at the other end spelled disaster. The slightest of touch saw the Bottesford player fall to the ground and Okera Simmonds fired the free-kick past debut keeper Luke Chadwick, who had joined that morning from Worksop Town. Eight minutes later a clumsy challenge in the penalty area gave Bottesford the chance to double the lead, however the spot kick was saved by Chadwick. As the ball was put back in play Kershaw was bundled over in a similar fashion just outside the area, however no foul was given much to the frustration of the visitors and the referee chose Liam Owen to punish as he went to the sin bin in shock. A nasty challenge by Simmonds on Gledhill in added time saw somehow only a yellow card rather than a straight red and the defender starting his second spell played no further part of the game. The second half saw consistent pressure from the Wellers with Josh Render saving from Eddie Agnew on a close-range one-on-one and then again from an effort outside the area. Other efforts went wide of the target from Finlaw and Cottle as it looked as though nothing would go in for the visitors. Another controversial moment came with less than ten minutes remaining a surging run forward by Dando saw the captain fouled, only to be headbutted as he went to take his place in the penalty area. The referee took no action. With the Wellers pushing more and more people forward, Bottesford hit on the counter to seal the points four minutes into the three shown of added time. Jake Brown finding the bottom corner. Bottesford Town - 2 Okera Simmonds 30 Jake Brown 90+4 Wombwell Town - 0 Attendance: 100
