WOMBWELL TOWN F.C.
Macron NCEL Premier Division Game 2
13/08/25 - Tadcaster Albion vs Wombwell Town

In stark contrast to the result against Horbury Town in the FA Cup, it was the Wellers who will have to learn from their latest outing.

Their first league campaign at step 5 hasn't started the way the team had hoped, and its the little differences that they will learn quickly and improve on over time.

The game at Tadcaster was fairly even in the first half with both sides having penalty appeals waved away with both declared as "accidental touches of the opponent".

Tadcaster started to take control in the final 15 minutes of the first half with Sebastian Malkowski called into action on 32 minutes to deny Matthew Mulhearn with an outstretched leg.

Five minutes later and Mulhearn found the net with a superb effort from outside the penalty area.  A loose ball found the midfielder in acres of space, but the shot itself would beat any keeper as the ball found the top corner of the net.

Half Time: 1-0

The second half saw a lot of huffing and puffing from the Wellers with their best chance coming on 58 minutes as Jordan Kershaw broke through the defence, only to see his effort collected by Alex Hughes the Tadcaster keeper.

Oliver Green somehow managed to double the lead on 64 minutes as his run down the right looked to have been cut off from goal, but a shot from an impossible angle got through the defence and hit the far side-netting.

With only three substitutes available, and all used, the Wellers found themselves down to ten men with18 minutes remaining as Kershaw limped from the field with a tweaked hamstring.

Tempers flared on 78 minutes as a poor challenge in the Wombwell half saw handbags and not much more, with the referee booking a player for each team and dealing with the situation well.

The hosts added a third as the game headed to added time as Desmond Okoro was played through on goal by Mason Wilson and finished with an effort in off the right hand post to secure their perfect start to the season.
