Brian Bradley Memorial Cup Round One
Saturday 7th December
Silkstone United vs WTFC
We return to cup action on Saturday when we travel to SCSL Division Two bottom club Silkstone United for the First Round of the Brian Bradley Memorial Cup.
Having suffered their first league defeat of the season, The Wellers will be looking to bounce back against a side who have conceded an average of over 5 goals per game this season.
Silkstone United return to the Sheffield County Senior League this season, but have found the going tough in the opening months of the season, but haven't played a game since they lost to Athersley Recreation Res 8-6 (AET) on November 2nd.
Manager Karl Rose will have a decision to make with who goes in goal with Sam Leigh available again after suspension. It is also hoped that a number of other missing players from the defeat to Sheffield Medics will return to the squad.
The game kicks off at 1:30pm on Saturday 7th December at Silkstone's Recreation Ground, which is off Barnsley Road, S75 4LX.
Should the game be a tie after 90 minutes the winners will be decided with a penalty shoot-out.
Match Report: Good Will Harling!
It took a second half comeback performance to get Wombwell Town into the second round of the Brian Bradley Memorial Cup.
A stunning opening seven minutes from the home side put them two goals to the good as the Division Two side showed they were better than their position from the first whistle.
The opening goal after six minutes left returning keeper Sam Leigh helpless as his defence failed to get the ball off the striker and just a minute later it was worse when a cross from the right found the Silkstone man unmarked for two.
The Wellers slowly asserted pressure and an effort on 22 minutes by Brad Kerr bounced off the roof of the net.
A minute later and the comeback started. A free kick into the box was played back across and headed in by Luke Norbury. Referee Tyler Machin allowing the goal despite some appeals for a foul by the home players.
It wasn't until the second half when the Wombwell team settled on a formation and tactics that worked to break down their opposition and Kerr equalised on 54 minutes with a lofted ball over the keeper.
Youngster Will Harling then became the star of the afternoon scoring his first two goals for the club to secure the win.
Harling's first came on 73 minutes with arguably the best goal of the afternoon with the youngster collecting the ball from Craig Hart, turning past two defenders and curling a beautiful shot into the far corner from the edge of the area.
The game went 4-2 with two minutes remaining as Harling found himself by the penalty spot with the ball and finding time to tuck the ball under the keeper.
Silkstone didn't give up and pulled it back to 4-3 in added time with a speculative effort from out wide which saw Leigh push the ball onto the crossbar and push the ball into the side netting before collecting it and failing to claim it hadn't gone in.
Match Result: Silkstone United 3, Wombwell Town 4.
