Match Report: Medics Inject Pain on Wellers
Sheffield Medics capitalised on three goalkeeping errors to inflict a first league defeat on Wombwell Town.
The opening goal came from a corner on 18 minutes as a corner curled through the hands of Bartosz Roda and straight into the net.
Roda's afternoon got worse two minutes before half time when he fumbled a free-kick and caught the advancing Medics' player to concede a penalty which made it 2-0 at the break.
Debutante Jake Bishop pulled a goal back for The Wellers on 66 minutes after a quick throw to Craig Hart saw an initial shot blocked and fall to the youngster who scored from the edge of the area.
Four minutes from time saw Medics secure the points as they pounced on a miss kicked clearance by Roda, who was well out of his goal, and an accurate shot from distance went into the empty net.
It was a tale of two keepers with one Roda's opposite making no fewer than six saves to deny the home side further.
Efforts from Gareth McDermott and a header from Matty Davies with the game goal less were both saved with Wombwell having the best of the opening exchanges.
A goal behind saw Ryan Smith force the keeper to make another save and concede a corner which was then sliced over the crossbar for a second corner on 21 minutes.
Luke Exley tried his luck from distance on 36 minutes after receiving the ball from Chris Byrnes, only to see his effort go agonisingly wide of the target.
Even at 3-1 down The Wellers didn't give up and a minute before full time Callum Beaumont forced the keeper to make a full stretch save which clipped the post and out for a corner.
It really was one of those afternoons.
