SHCSL Division One - Saturday 4th January - New Bohemians vs WTFC
Match Report: Comeback Goals Give Wellers Win
A second half surge from Wombwell Town saw them pick up their first three points of the new year at the first attempt.
The visitors looked out of sorts for much of the first half and went behind on 25 minutes when Ryan Becks latched onto a left wing cross and beat Sam Leigh with a low shot.
Going behind seemed to give Wombwell Town a shot in the arm and a long ball by Leigh found Gareth McDermott who twisted in the box before trying a cheeky back-heel shot, which was cleared as it headed towards the goal line.
The equaliser came on 34 minutes from a quickly taken free-kick by Luke Exley, who celebrated his 33rd birthday the day before, and found Ryan Smith unmarked outside of the area.
The left back's shot evaded everyone and left New Bohemians keeper Nick Wells no choice but to watch the ball fly into the net.
A couple of substitutions at half time put extra strength onto the pitch in different areas and it took just six minutes for the Wellers to take the lead.
McDermott held possession on the left wing for what felt like hours and kept the ball under pressure before delivering a perfect ball into the area for Will Harling to score his fourth goal in as many starts.
It quickly became 3-1 when substitute Joe Oliver tapped home a deflected shot from Exley on 54 minutes, which stood despite the opposition hoping for offside and calling for VAR.
A handball on 63 minutes for a clear handball saw New Bohemians go down to ten men for ten minutes with Rudy Petre shown a sin bin booking.
Luke Norbury stepped up to score his 33rd goal in a Wellers shirt, putting the ball into the keeper's bottom right corner.
Another substitute, Mason Scamadin, netted his first goal for the club with eight minutes to go when he volleyed home from ten yards out following a Harling corner which wasn't cleared.
