SHCSL Division One - Saturday 7th March - United Worksop vs WTFC
Match Report: Comeback Stuns United Worksop
Wombwell Town had to come from two goals down against a battling United Worksop side and took all three points deep into added time as every minute counted.
The game was virtually all one way traffic in a game where the hosts used every tactic in the book to gain some points.
A raft of chances could have put the visitors out of reach with Joe Oliver, Peter Bartleson and Chris Byrnes all going close in the opening 18 minutes.
Oliver forced Marcin Jaszczyk into a flying save on 23 minutes after the striker latched onto the ball followng a free-kick into the box.
The game swung in United Worksop's favour on 45 minutes when a foul on Oliver in the box was ignored by the referee and the clearance won the hosts a foul on the half way line.
A quick free kick played to the striker standing in a clear offside position was allowed to play-off as the ball was put past the on-rushing Jonathan Davis and into the net to give the bottom club a surprise lead at the break.
The second half saw Wombwell Town advance on goal time and time again with the keeper proving his worth again this time saving directly from a free kick on the edge of the area after Harling was fouled.
A break by United Worksop on 54 minutes caught the defence off guard and after beating Davis with a shot across goal George Westwood tried to block the ball on the line, but conceded a penalty as the ball hit his arm.
Sending Davis the wrong way it looked a long way back for the Wellers with over half an hour to go.
Luke Norbury, playing in defence, got Wombwell Town back in the game on 63 minutes following a Luke Exley corner. The ball found Norbury unmarked at the back post and he had time to slot the ball into the near corner.
Just three minutes later and the Wellers were level following a long ball into the box. Bartleson, coming back from an offside position, let the ball go over his head to find Oliver who turned and shot past Jaszczyk for a deserved equaliser.
With a certain amount of disruption on the sidelines referee Elliot Lajarige asked three of the unruly United Worksop supporters from the pitch-side.
On 73 minutes a free-kick played up field found Byrnes in the area but his effort at goal hit the side netting.
United Worksop, who had diploid time-wasting tactics all game, were holding onto the draw after the game went into added time for a lengthy period which was to last 15 minutes.
A minute into added time a petulant reaction from captain Adrian Blachewicz saw the defender booked for a late tackle on substitute Callum Wood. After receiving the yellow Blachewicz kicked the ball away and received his marching orders. To finish off the outburst the referee endured another spat of foul language before booting the ball even further away from the pitch to delay the re-start once again.
Looking for a winner it was the post that was rattled this time as Chris Byrnes was yet again denied in front of goal, but the winner came in stunning fashion on 97 minutes.
A loose ball forward saw an attempted overhead clearance by Pawel Grabowski which went horribly wrong and his kick looped over his own keeper and into the net to give Wombwell Town the points.
