Match Report: Second Half Battle Wins it for Wellers
A late Ryan Smith goal made sure of the points in injury time as Wombwell Town made it two wins out of two.
The first 45 minutes will be quickly forgotten with very few chances coming for either team.
South Kirkby had the best chance just before the half time whistle when a long range effort fizzled past the post.
The second half saw a lot more action and the Wellers first experience of suffering a sin bin when Brad Kerr was sent to the sidelines on 54 minutes.
Kerr had broken the deadlock five minutes prior when he pounced on a pass from Gareth McDermott who won the race against the keeper after a delightful through ball.
A bit of breathing space was given to the Wellers on 72 minutes when George Westwood headed home at the far post following a perfectly placed free-kick.
It could have been three after a succession of corners saw a great save by the keeper followed by a header wide from debutant James Sellars.
Kirkby kept pushing forward and forced Bartosz Roda into making his first real save on 88 minutes before pulling one back as the game headed to injury time.
The game was wrapped up by substitute Smith in added time when he sped onto a loose back pass, beating the keeper to the ball and placing it into the empty net.
