Match Report: Wellers Complete Comeback
Wombwell Town had to come from a goal down to secure their fourth win from four matches.
The Wellers are setting the pace at the top of the table going three points clear after AFC Dronfield fell 4-2 at home to Sheffield Medics.
It was the home side who put on the early pressure as a scramble in the box saw an effort cleared off the line from a Luke Exley corner after three minutes.
A minutes later and a penalty claim was waved away after Gareth McDermott shouted for handball following a cross from George Westwood after a second corner had been taken.
Somewhat against the run of play Handsworth FC Reserves took the lead through Sam Eccles, who was on hand to tuck home the rebound after a first effort hit the post and fell kindly to the attacker on six minutes.
It didn't take long for the equaliser to come and it came from the penalty spot after Brad Kerr was fouled from behind on eleven minutes.
Luke Norbury stepped up and put away his second spot kick of the season.
Wombwell took the lead on 34 minutes from a corner as Norbury powerfully headed home his fifth of the season at the far post from Ryan Smith's curling corner.
The second half saw a much quieter affair, but after Luke Jackson was sent to the sin bin after showing dissent following a foul captain Luke Exley thumped home the resulting free-kick to make it 3-1 with 12 minutes to go.
Handsworth could have been awarded a penalty in the final ten minutes after their man fell following a possible pull back by Norbury, but nothing was awarded in their favour.
