SHCSL Division One - Saturday 23rd November - WTFC vs New Bohemians
After ten days without a game because of the recent weather Wombwell Town host New Bohemians on Saturday hoping to make it nine matches unbeaten in the league.
The Wellers may be without Luke Needham who came off injured in the win over Wombwell Main Reserves, but manager Karl Rose will have new signing Will Harling available and the experienced Peter Bartleson again after his one game suspension.
Since promotion the visitors have had a mixed start to life in Division One and are currently 9th with six points on the board.
New Bohemians have only played five league games with victories over South Kirkby Colliery and Ardsley Athletico, the latter coming in their last league outing back on October 5th.
It will be three weeks since New Bohemians last played and that came in the Brian and Judith Bradley Memorial Cup. Following a 2-2 draw it was Wombwell Main Development who went through on penalties.
Join us at the Recreation Ground for a 2pm kick off.
Match Report: Wellers Clinch First Clean Sheet
Another win for the Wellers will probably please manager Karl Rose more, but amazingly the result also brought his team their first clean sheet of the season.
Keeper Bartosz Roda was never really tested by the visiting team as two shots flew wide of the goal and a single punching clearance from a corner was pretty much all Roda had to do.
In contrast his opposite Nick Wells had to make a string of saves to deny Wombwell Town and on another day they might have scored five or six.
It was two corners in the opening eleven minutes which did the damage with headers from Geroge Westwood and Matty Davies finding their way into the net.
The first, on five minutes, saw the corner flicked backwards by the near post by Chris Byrnes to the leaping Westwood and nothing was stopping his third goal of the season.
On eleven minutes a Gareth McDermott corner found the head of Davies who made no mistake at close range to score his first goal for the club.
The Wellers peppered the goal with shots until half time with Luke Exley shooting wide on 17 minutes and Brad Kerr putting one over the bar on 28 minutes.
As the game grew more evenly contested another Exley effort two minutes before the break stung the palms of Wells to deny a third.
The heavy pitch took its toll in the second half but again there were efforts by McDermott and Kerr which came close.
On 74 minutes Kerr finally beat the offside trap but was denied by the legs of Wells who made himself big advancing towards the forward.
A third goal came five minutes from time to wrap things up and a cheeky one-two between McDermott and Byrnes in the area saw the former strike low and watched with anticipation as the ball hit the post and rolled over the line as it headed towards the other side of the frame.
