League Cup Group Stage - Game One
After nearly four months with no football, Wombwell Town will now be wishing the start of the League Cup was put back another week after a disastrous return to the pitch.
It took just 21 seconds for a mishap at the back following a routine throw which was followed by a trip in the area that gave Denaby Main a very early penalty. Jordan Cooper dispatched the penalty, sending keeper Jono Davis the wrong way.
The Wellers' depleted side had very few opportunities in front of goal against the big, strong visiting side though a second for Denaby, and a second for Cooper, on 18 minutes came somewhat against the run of play.
Wombwell's problems increased on 35 minutes when a free-kick by Jack Bancroft somehow found its way into the net from a position you wouldn't expect would cause much direct threat.
Another free-kick three minutes later in a more conventional position outside the box in front of the goal turned 'the hill' into 'a mountain to climb' as the diminutive Cameron Till smashed the ball in for a fourth.
The second half was a much quieter affair and luck was seemingly nowhere to be seen when Harley Blankley smashed an effort against the crossbar on 55 minutes with the ball rebounding straight into AJ Nota's grateful arms.
Three group stage points were secured with twenty minutes to go as Brodie Cooper headed home from a corner.
