Pre-season Friendly - Saturday 10th August - versus Littletown FC
Match Report: Wellers Finish Positively
In their final pre-season friendly before the start of the new campaign a solid performance at Littletown FC will give them more confidence after a difficult week.
With injured Jak Rennison watching from the sideline, the visitors looked composed and ruthless on the pitch to put a smile back on the manager's face.
The goals started to come on 16 minutes when a long ball forward from the back found Luke Norbury with back to goal.
Norbury's turn and pass found Ryan Smith on the edge of the area and the forward placed his shot past the keeper to give Wombwell the lead.
Possibly the best move of the game lead to a second goal for Smith on 36 minutes.
Craig Hart and Gareth McDermott combined down the right with the latter playing schemer Luke Needham the ball 35 yards from goal.
Needham's through ball found Smith open once more and he finished as calmly as he had taken his first goal.
A third was added a minute before half time as Captain Luke Exley intercepted a loose clearance from the substitute goalkeeper and took the ball forward one-on-one before finishing cooly.
Smith almost became provider on 55 minutes when he squared a ball to substitute Joe Oliver who had his first effort blocked and couldn't latch onto the rebound before it was cleared yards in front of goal.
The game grew quieter from then on with Littletown slowly building their own confidence, but were hit by a sucker-punch with eight minutes to go when a trialist found himself at an acute angle in the area and chipped the keeper to find the far corner.
