23/24 Pre-Season Friendly - Game 4
15/07/23 - Wombwell Town vs Silkstone Utd
report by Ryan Law Brodie Cooper’s hat-trick helps Wombwell Town to a convincing 4-0 win against Silkstone United. Within the first eight minutes Gadhafi Kiwanuka saw his shot deflect out for a corner. The ball in dropped kindly to Joe Egan who’s deflected shot smacked the post and was cleared out for another corner. The Wellers took the lead from the resulting corner as Callum Walton whipped in a delicious ball toward the back post and Brodie Cooper headed home. Trialist B found space down the right hand side, but his cross was just too high for a diving Eddie Agnew in the box. On 24 minutes, Trialist E chose to lay a ball to Brodie Cooper instead of taking on his man which proved to be a great decision. Cooper saw the space open up in front of him and rifled one into the roof of the net from 25 yards out. A superb solo strike that doubled our lead and doubled his goal tally for the day. Moments later Cooper could’ve secured his hat-trick as the ball fell to his feet from a corner. Not expecting it to reach him the ball bounced off his shin and went out for a goal kick. The visitors had a half chance towards the end of the half as Silkstone’s Number 12 lashed his effort wide from 30 yards. Then a last ditch crucial slide tackle from Egan prevented the Silkstone forward from getting his shot off in the penalty area. Half Time: WTFC 2, SUTD 0. After several changes, The Wellers started sharply having put the ball in the net only for it to be ruled out for a foul. Cooper’s cross was met by Alf Thompson who headed back across the face of goal and in, but the goal didn’t stand. With around an hour gone Trialist G put a ball in the box and captain Agnew couldn’t time his volley correctly and didn’t make full contact with the ball in the six yard box. The type of chance he would usually take. After some nice footwork in the box on 84 minutes, latest signing Farbod Yousefi was brought down in the penalty area and the foul is awarded. Cooper stepped up and calmly placed the ball into the top right hand corner to make it 3-0, securing his hat-trick in the process. After a dominant half by Wombwell Town, Yousefi was involved again and placed a ball through towards to the keeper's left hand post to Walton who riffled the ball into the roof of the net securing a comfortable 4-0 win.
