Toolstation NCEL Division One - Game 19
11/11/23 - Harrogate Railway Athletic vs Wombwell Town
The first encounter between the two teams proved to be one where chances taken took the points. The Wellers had two opportunities to take the lead while having the best of the opening half hour. Gadhafi Kiwanuka skewed an effort across the face of the goal on 23 minutes after Brad Kerr cut inside from the right and laid off the pass. Three minutes later Kerr could have scored his first in five matches as his close range effort was denied down low by keeper Jonathan Dash. Harrogate grabbed the lead with their first shot on target on 41 minutes as top scorer Luca Bolino raced through behind the defence and beat the advancing Jono Davis. The home side doubled the lead just three minutes later through Sam Clothier. The ball down the left saw captain Rikki Paylor go down with a groin injury and as play continued the ball was played across the gap in central defence to Clothier at the back post. Half Time: HRA 2, WTFC 0. On 67 minutes the Wellers best chance to start a comeback fell to Kerr who forced a leg save from Dash and sub Gareth McDermott put the rebound header onto the roof of the net. With quarter of an hour remaining the game was put to bed as Joel Barker was somehow able to collect the ball in his own half and run to the edge of the penalty area before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
